UVX & OGX – UTA Bus Rapid Transit Guide

Guide to UTA bus rapid transit: Utah Valley Express (UVX) serving Provo and Orem, and Ogden Express (OGX) serving the Ogden area. Frequency, stops, and live tracking.

What is BRT?

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) combines the flexibility of a bus with rail-like features: dedicated lanes or signal priority, high-frequency service, off-board fare payment, and level boarding at enhanced stations. UTA operates two BRT routes — UVX (Utah Valley Express) in the Provo–Orem area and OGX (Ogden Express) in the Ogden area — both of which offer faster, more frequent service than standard bus routes in their corridors.

UVX corridor (Provo to Orem)

The Utah Valley Express (UVX) runs along University Avenue and University Parkway in Utah County, connecting Provo's historic downtown with the Orem FrontRunner station and BYU campus. It's one of the highest-ridership routes in the UTA system, serving both university students and general commuters in the fast-growing Utah Valley.

  • Key stops: Provo Central Station (FrontRunner), BYU campus, UVU campus, Orem Central Station
  • Runs at 10-minute headways during peak hours
  • Dedicated bus lanes at key intersections for faster travel
  • Enhanced BRT stations with real-time arrival displays

OGX corridor (Ogden area)

The Ogden Express (OGX) serves the Washington Boulevard / Wall Avenue corridor in Ogden, connecting the historic downtown with Weber State University and northern Ogden neighborhoods. Like UVX, it features frequent service and enhanced stations compared to a standard local bus route.

  • Key stops: Ogden FrontRunner Station, downtown Ogden, Weber State University
  • Frequent peak headways with real-time arrivals at stations
  • Connects to FrontRunner for regional travel south toward Salt Lake City

Frequency and stops

Both UVX and OGX are designed for frequent, turn-up-and-go service during operating hours. Headways during peak periods are typically 10–15 minutes, making them the most bus-like rail alternatives in their respective corridors. Off-peak and evening headways stretch to 20–30 minutes. Check the live tracker for current frequencies.

Live tracking

Track UVX and OGX buses in real time on the UTA BRT Tracker. Each BRT bus shows as a labeled vehicle on the map, and tapping a station stop reveals the arrival board with both scheduled and projected departure times. Because BRT routes are high-frequency, even a 3–4 minute delay rarely means a long wait for the next vehicle.
